We love to celebrate our employees at Navy Federal. We’re pleased to spotlight Thomas Witman, branch manager at the Encinitas branch in California. He was awarded ‘Ambassador of the Month’ by the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce! Congratulations Thomas!

We talked with Thomas to get his take on his experience at Navy Federal and what it means to be a chamber of commerce ambassador.


Please tell the readers a little about yourself and your background.

Thomas: After completing my degree in 2005, I moved from London to California and, until recently, have not missed the rain one bit. I am passionate about music, my family, team member development, and helping to make a difference in people’s lives.

I joined Navy Federal in 2006 as a part-time Member Service Representative, working directly with our members. My team and I opened the Encinitas branch in 2014. I owe a debt of gratitude to Joni Correia (Carlsbad branch manager); without her expert coaching, mentoring and steadfast support, my career progression would not have been possible.

What is your favorite part about working with members who come into the branch?

Thomas: Navy Federal is highly service oriented and puts its members first. Working in a branch allows me to see directly what a difference we make in our members’ lives. The most rewarding aspect of my role is helping members have the ‘warm fuzzy’ feeling, and knowing that my team and I have made their lives better.

What is the Chamber of Commerce and how does the ambassador program support that mission?

Thomas: The Chamber of Commerce exists to promote a healthy and prosperous business environment, thus preserving and improving the quality of life in the Encinitas community. The ambassador program supports and promotes this mission by helping retain current members and attract new participants.

As an ambassador, I attend Chamber of Commerce meetings, ‘meet and greets,’ and ribbon cutting ceremonies within the community. This role has provided me additional opportunities to network and establish business relationships, which I very much enjoy doing.

How does this program further the mission of Navy Federal and better serve our members?

Thomas: As a new branch we face the challenge of awareness. Being a Chamber of Commerce Ambassador has helped me promote Navy Federal’s brand and increase our branch’s visibility within the area. Also, as ‘Ambassador of the Month’, the Chamber highlighted me, my branch, and how we serve our members.
