It’s not every day you get to see sports heroes mingling with actual heroes – like the men and women who serve our country. But when the stars align, special things can happen!
And special things did happen on June 24 when we hosted an event here at Navy Federal HQ with our members and two talented professional football players, Keenan Reynolds and Ryan Kerrigan. Members and players kicked things off by sharing stories and making connections.
“It’s kind of like a family almost,” said Reynolds of meeting with Navy Federal members. “Everybody has some sort of connection to the military or Department of Defense. That’s pretty cool.”
Reynolds’ connection to Navy Federal runs deep, as he’s a member himself. Prior to his professional career, he was a quarterback for the U.S. Naval Academy and set a number of records during his collegiate career.
Kerrigan, who plays on the opposite side of the ball as Reynolds as a defensive end, was thrilled to join us. “I’m always excited to get to interact with some of our military members,” he said. “It’s quite the honor because obviously the military does so much for all us Americans and how we live our lives every day.”
Once the players had a chance to meet and greet with members, the games began! Reynolds and Kerrigan proved they could toss more than a pigskin and joined in on a few rounds of a bean bag toss. And when it came to competitive natures, Navy Federal members gave our professional athletes a run for their money.
After the games, our debit cardholders shared what Navy Federal means to them, thanking staff for their continuing support and service. One member said he loves that he can speak to employees about everything from investing and saving to general financial advice.
Another member, Ken James, shared why he loves being a part of Navy Federal. “Credit unions are kind of special because membership makes you part owner of the credit union. That’s much different than being with a bank.”
Because membership means part ownership, we strive to treat every member with a personal touch. Even when it comes down to the little things like representatives speaking clearly over the phone or allowing members to interrupt if something doesn’t sound right. “We always feel comfortable, safe and confident that our money is being looked after,” said another member.
We thank all members that came out, and Keenan Reynolds and Ryan Kerrigan for stepping off the football field and onto the financial field for the afternoon! We look forward to finding new ways to get engaged with our membership, and showcasing just why Navy Federal is a great financial institution and exciting community to belong to.
