In 2006, Navy Federal had 114 branches worldwide. Currently, there are 253 branches and plans are in place to add 60 new branches over the next three years.
With the rapid expansion of new branches, sometimes it can be hard to keep up with where Navy Federal anchors. To make sure you always know where we are in your community – each time a new branch opens, we will highlight them on our blog and bring you stories from around the country and overseas.
Each branch has its own “flavor” it brings to the local community and the staff members within those branches work hard to make every member experience a positive one.
Our first Branching Out segment takes us to beautiful Mililani, HI. This branch was Navy Federal’s 251st branch, and the fourth in the tropical state. The surrounding branches serve over 65K members within a 20-mile radius, including members from Schofield Barracks and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
The branch held a grand opening on Sept. 10th, and included a ribbon cutting, traditional Hawaiian blessing, and a donation check presented to the Tripler Fisher House.

We spoke with Mililani branch manager Eliana Tate to get a better idea of how the branch will serve its’ members:
What do you like best about seeing members come in to the branch?
It’s great to see members come in so excited and pleasantly surprised that the branch is open and so convenient to the Schofield Army Barracks and the Mililani community. They have been very enthusiastic about the new branch location and have made the team feel very welcome in the community.
How does your location in Mililani help you best serve your members?
Even though it’s a small island, traffic in Oahu can get very congested, so it’s incredibly convenient for our members to have a branch near where they live and work, saving them at least a thirty minute drive, if not hours in traffic. And we are very excited to be so close to Oahu’s largest Army base of Schofield Barracks and have the opportunity to better serve their community.
What is unique about the Mililani branch?
We have the only Navy Federal coin machine on the island, which is a big time-saver for members who have large coin deposits.
What’s the best place to get a bite to eat near the new branch?
We have a wonderful location next to a lot of great restaurants and shops. The first Wing Stop in Hawaii just opened next door, and we also have some local favorites like Poke Stop and L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. And of course our team is happy to have a Starbucks® close by!
The new branch is located on the North West side of the island in The Gateway at Mililani Mauka, a newly established strip mall. Navy Federal is the sole financial institution located in the complex and is surrounded by eateries and small businesses.
As Navy Federal continues to expand and grow, the Branching Out series will keep you informed of the latest openings! Stay tuned for our next Branching Out announcement: Bel Air, Md.
