At Navy Federal, service is something we hold close to our hearts, both serving our members, but also the communities that they live in. And for many of our team members, service extends after business hours. We take great pride in being able to lend a helping hand. We seek to enrich the lives of members, beyond just their financial needs and we’re proud to showcase what our employees have been doing in their communities.
Check out what we were up in October!
World’s largest credit union and the world’s largest USO join forces
For over 15 years, employees and their families have volunteered to support Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit that provides critical home repairs, modifications and improvements for low-income homeowners.
This fall, Navy Federal volunteers from our headquarters in Virginia were challenged with making improvements to the USO facility at Fort Belvoir.
After a few coats of paint, a new walkway and a new ground cover the building is now ready to welcome the over 150,000 visitors they get each year.

Navy Federal’s Pentagon branch partnered with United Through Reading to celebrate Jumpstart’s Read for the Record!
The campaign, which ran from October 19-22, invited military members who are separated from their families to video record themselves reading a bedtime story to send home to their children. Opportunities like these allow active duty military to stay connected with their families during deployment. We shipped a copy of the book and the video recording to the military members’ families, so the moment can be enjoyed again and again.
Navy Federal 5K
Almost 900 Navy Federal team members, families and community members alike supported the Annual Navy Federal 5k Run/Walk held on Saturday, October 3!
The overall male winner finished in an impressive1 17:46 and the overall female winner clocked in with an awesome 19:57. The 5K donates all proceeds to a local charity, Committee for Helping Others. It also encourages the community to be more physically active and lead healthier lives.
The Committee for Helping Others is an all-volunteer run organization in the Northern Virginia area that provides good and services to residents who are in need. They provide a range of services including emergency assistance, basic necessities like food and clothing, and participates in the Meals on Wheels program.
In conjunction with the 5K, this year we hosted the first annual Virtual 5K. Employees, family members and friends could register for the run/walk on a course of their choosing. For the inaugural year, 132 participants representing 14 branches participated!
Mark your calendars: the 24th Annual 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for October 1, 2016!
Like we said, Navy Federal is dedicated to giving back and lending a helping hand. Stay tuned for next month, we can’t wait to share what we are up to during the holidays!
