Giving is good for you! Exercise your generosity by donating your credit card rewards points to charity.
A study published by Harvard Business School found that people who spend money on others are happier than those who spend on themselves. They also reap both physical and mental benefits. And you don’t even need cash on hand. You can make a positive difference in someone else’s life—and your own—by donating your credit card rewards points.
Most credit card companies allow you to donate unredeemed points to charity. Simply log into your account on the credit card website and find the redeem points tab. Or call the customer service number on the back of your credit card to make your donation. Your charitable options will vary depending on the credit card company, but generally you can choose from thousands of good causes.
A few points to keep in mind
- Some credit card companies require that you have a minimum number of points to donate.
- Not every charity accepts rewards points.
- A donation of rewards points may not be tax-deductible.
