National Small Business Week (NSBW) started in 1963, but we’ve been supporting America’s entrepreneurs since 1933. While our dedicated Business Services department officially formed in 2004, we’ve been offering loans, credit cards, financial advice and other products and services for entrepreneurs since Navy Federal opened its doors. Small business is the backbone of the economy, and as vice president of Business Services, I’d like to thank our brave business members for taking a chance and following their dreams.

This year as part of NSBW, May 4-8, we’re spotlighting a few of our successful small business members in hopes that their story will inspire others.

Last year during NSBW, we shared written stories on our blog of a restaurant and wine bar in Alexandria, Va., a furniture and home décor store in Pacific Grove, Calif., a food truck and restaurant business in Richmond, Va., a BBQ joint in New Paris, Ohio, and finally, one of the largest hotel management companies in the southern U.S.

We’re taking it one step further this year by producing video spotlights that we will share during NSBW on our social media handles. This includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube, as well as on our blog and Navy Federal Business Services online. We’ll be spotlighting unique businesses, including a cheesecake shop in Pensacola, Fla., a chiropractic office in Towson, Md. and a high-end retail shop in Washington, D.C., to name a few.

As an added bonus, Susan Compton, Supervisor of National Markets, and I will be taking over Navy Federal’s Facebook page on Thursday, May 7 from 1 pm to 3 pm ET to answer your questions about starting a small business.

So be sure to follow us now on all of our social media handles and view the videos the moment they become live! We’ve never done anything like this before, and we’re eager for you all to see the results.
